In the summer of 1974, Jane and I took off in my VW bus and spent a few months on the road. Back then it was safe to camp just about anywhere and gas was about 50 cents a gallon or so. We got married on June 13th in Nova Scotia and for the first time in a month, we slept in a bed and had a real bathroom. We stayed at a place called Keddy's Motor Lodge and had a retired minister and his wife perform the ceremony on the beach behind their house. The minister's wife couldn't figure out how to use my 35mm camera so she used her Brownie Star Flash to take the only wedding photo we have. We left Truro, Nova Scotia and headed to Cape Breton...took the ferry to Prince Edward Island...and then on to Newfoundland...We were both from Florida and had never seen snow and were able to see enough to make us sick of it after a few weeks. We went to Quebec, Montreal, Toronto, and everywhere in between...It was a travel experience that we repeated many, many times back in the day. We road tripped throughout America and never had a bit of trouble on the road, in a campsite, or pulling off and sleeping in the country. I took thousands of photographs and went through 3 or 4 vans but only one beautiful girl...
